Pena slams two homers in rout

Posted in Fantasy Baseball by DuckSnort 45 days ago (http://ownersedge.fanball.com)
The News Carlos Pena powered the Rays to a 9-0 win over the Blue Jays Tuesday by smacking a pair of homers and driving in five runs. Our View Pena hit a solo shot in the fourth inning and followed up with a grand slam in the fifth. The free-swinging first baseman is up to 11 bombs on the year and has now driven in 39, but his .183 average is hard to stomach. It's hard not to play him because of his power, but be sure you have someone in your lineup to offset the poor average.

Niemann throws two-hitter

Posted in Fantasy Baseball by DuckSnort 45 days ago (http://ownersedge.fanball.com)
The News Jeff Niemann was brilliant on Tuesday, firing a two-hit shutout as the Rays easily dispatched the Blue Jays 9-0. Our View Niemann is now a perfect 6-0 on the season and the fabulous outing lowered his ERA to 2.48 on the year. The shutout was his first of 2010 (third career) and the only players to reach base did so on two singles and a walk. He fanned six and bounced back nicely from his worst outing of the season on June 1st when he allowed five runs over 6.1 innings.

Huff alls to BoSox

Posted in Fantasy Baseball by DuckSnort 45 days ago (http://ownersedge.fanball.com)
The News David Huff took a tough loss on Tuesday, allowing three unearned runs to the Red Sox over six innings. Our View Huff fell to 2-7, but looked pretty good despite his defense failing him. He scattered eight hits and fanned six against just one walk and lowered his ERA to 5.46. Still, he's not much of a fantasy hurler and shouldn't be owned outside of the deepest AL-only leagues.

Ramirez likely headed to DL

Posted in Fantasy Baseball by DuckSnort 45 days ago (http://feeds.cbssports.com)
Cubs 3B Aramis Ramirez missed his second straight game on Tuesday in Milwaukee and could be headed for the disabled list, reports MLB.com. Batting .168 on the season as he's been bothered by a sore left thumb, the Cubs believe he needs to get healthy to turn his season around. "[The thumb] bothers him from time to time," Cubs manager Lou Piniella said. "I think regarding that situation, rather than milking it along, [he could go on the DL and] possibly get it 100 percent well, but we'll see." The Cubs started Mike Fontenot at third on Tuesday and could recall Chad A. Tracy to play there when and if Ramirez goes on the DL. "Until we decide what to do, there's no sense in any speculation," Piniella said. Lou Piniella - Chicago Cubs - Mike Fontenot - Milwaukee - Aramis Ramírez

Posada gets in catching drills

Posted in Fantasy Baseball by DuckSnort 45 days ago (http://ownersedge.fanball.com)
The News Jorge Posada made a positive step on Tuesday, performing catching drills for the first time since returning from the disabled list, according to the Newark Star-Ledger. Our View Posada caught Andy Pettitte in a bullpen session, blocked balls in the dirt and made all-out throws down to second. "It feels fine, it's good," said Posada, who missed time with a hairline fracture in his right foot. "We just want to be smart about it. Take a day off tomorrow and do it again Thursday." He will continue to DH until he's ready to resume his role behind the plate.

Boyer called up

Posted in Fantasy Baseball by DuckSnort 45 days ago (http://ownersedge.fanball.com)
The News The Diamondbacks recalled reliever Blaine Boyer from Triple-A on Tuesday, according to the Associated Press. Our View Boyer was DFAed in mid-May and then cleared through waivers before accepting his assignment to Triple-A. He pitched very well while in the minors and the desperate D-Backs have decided to give him another chance. They have a 7.19 bullpen ERA this season, so Boyer can't be much worse than that. Saul Rivera was DFAed as a result.

DeRosa to be examined again

Posted in Fantasy Baseball by DuckSnort 45 days ago (http://ownersedge.fanball.com)
The News The Associated Press reports that Mark DeRosa returned to San Fransisco to have his injured wrist examined once again. Our View There have been rumblings that DeRosa may be done for the year, so this visit to the doc will likely tell us if that's true. The injury is apparently to a different part of the wrist than where he had surgery after the 2009 season with the Cardinals, but apparently is just as serious. He has been on the DL since May 9th and there's a very good chance he'll need more surgery.

A-Rod back in action

Posted in Fantasy Baseball by DuckSnort 45 days ago (http://ownersedge.fanball.com)
The News The Newark Star-Ledger reports that Alex Rodriguez returned to action on Tuesday and the groin injury that forced him from Sunday's game is not an issue. Our View The injury scare for A-Rod was a minor one and he only missed one inning of play as a result. Manager Joe Girardi said the third baseman "feels great" and he should be fine to keep active in fantasy leagues moving forward.
