Victorino ties personal high with 14th homer

Posted in Fantasy Baseball by DuckSnort 32 days ago (http://ownersedge.fanball.com)
The News Shane Victorino went 3-for-4 with a homer against the Reds on Thursday. Our View That makes back-to-back games with homers for Victorino. He's up to 14 homers on the season, which matches his career high. We're a bit skeptical that he can make a run at 30, but it's nice to see him add some power to his already fine overall game.

Schneider hits walkoff homer in the 12th inning

Posted in Fantasy Baseball by DuckSnort 32 days ago (http://ownersedge.fanball.com)
The News Brian Schneider hit a walkoff homer in the 12th inning against the Reds on Thursday. Our View Schneider's shot gave the Phillies a 4-3 win. It was his only hit of the game, and with Carlos Ruiz progressing well, Schneider may only have until the All-Star break to be Philadelphia's starting catcher. Still, good for him to come up with such a clutch hit.

Zobrist a solid fit for leadoff

Posted in Fantasy Baseball by DuckSnort 32 days ago (http://feeds.cbssports.com)
Rays UTL Ben Zobrist batted in the leadoff spot for the 10th time this season on Thursday against the Indians. After batting just .241 in April, Zobrist has worked out his mechanics and has his average up to .290. "Great at-bats. That's what I was hoping for by putting him up there, just to get him back to that point of seeing pitches, not being so eager," manager Joe Maddon told MLB.com. "He was kind of opening things up a bit. It's kind of been working out pretty good. He's done a great job." Zobrist has 15 walks in his last 10 games, including seven stolen bases and has risen his on-base percentage from .366 to .379 over that span. "I'm going to ride him there against the righties until, maybe, if B.J. [Upton] were to get going against righties, then it'd be kind of optimal if we could keep him up there -- or [Jason Bartlett]," Maddon said. "One of the two, if they really got themselves well enough to hit them there, then we'd move Zo back down. Right now, I like how he can get on

Adjustments paying off for Rodriguez

Posted in Fantasy Baseball by DuckSnort 32 days ago (http://feeds.cbssports.com)
Rays 2B Sean Rodriguez, currently on a nine-game hitting streak, was recently named the starting second basemen in Tampa Bay. His .400 batting average during his hitting streak is a result of some adjustments he made at the plate with hitting coach Derek Shelton, according to MLB.com, and got him the starting job. "The adjustments that he has made matter. If he had been hitting the way that he had been, and he had played every day, it would not have mattered," manager Joe Maddon said. "It's truly a combination situation." Rodriguez worked on bringing his hands back, legs further apart, moving less and creating a better path to the ball. "Without the adjustment, we would not be choosing to play him every day. I'm pretty sure of that," Maddon said. Joe Maddon - Coach - MLB.com - Derek Shelton - Batting average

Zimmermann sharp in rehab outing

Posted in Fantasy Baseball by DuckSnort 32 days ago (http://ownersedge.fanball.com)
The News Jordan Zimmermann (elbow) gave up just one hit over three innings in his latest appearance for Single-A Potomac, according to MLB.com. Our View Zimmermann struck out five batters in the game. He's looked excellent in his rehab outings thus far, and while it was originally thought that he may not be ready to pitch at all this season, it's now looking like he could be back sometime in August as he continues to build up his endurance and arm strength.

Torres hits sixth homer of the season

Posted in Fantasy Baseball by DuckSnort 32 days ago (http://ownersedge.fanball.com)
The News Andres Torres went 2-for-6 with a home run and three runs against the Brewers on Thursday. Our View Torres is pretty firmly entrenched as the Giants' every day leadoff hitter right now. Those consistent at-bats, combined with his decent pop and fine speed should be enough to own him, at least until he cools off, in all but the shallowest of leagues.
