McGahee has new attitude

The Carroll County Times reports Ravens RB Willis McGahee has changed his attitude and work ethic, which could help him get out of the doghouse and back with the starting group. "I'm a little different, I'm not going to lie to you," McGahee said. "I go with the flow. That's how you've got to be. You can't go around here moping about things. You just control what you do, and that's your own destiny." The coaching staff has taken notice. "We've got a smarter Willis McGahee, more of a student of the game with a good work ethic," running backs coach Wilbert Montgomery said. McGahee looks much leaner than his listed playing weight of 235 pounds. He has regularly broken free for solid, intermediate runs, also bouncing off tacklers and excelling in short-yardage situations during practice. That could help McGahee in his battle with Ray Rice for the starting job. Read More

McDaniels fond of Buckhalter

Broncos coach Josh McDaniels said Tuesday he's fond of RB Correll Buckhalter, who is competing for playing time with rookie Knowshon Moreno, LaMont Jordan, Ryan Torain and Peyton Hillis. "He is kind of like the rest of our backs," McDaniels said. "He has got a lot of versatility. He can, certainly, run the ball. He has got a great, great burst. (He) may be our fastest back. He probably is. We aren't ever going to time them and run them out here, but he is probably our fastest back. He is very good in pass protection, catches the ball very well (and) comes from a program where they don't accept anything other than winning. A lot of those things are very positive. Buck has been a great influence on some of our younger players. There is really nothing that disappoints you about Correll. He shows up every day ready to work." Read More

Sparano likes what Polite does

Dolphins coach Tony Sparano said Tuesday he's impressed with FB Lousaka Polite. "What I'm looking for with Lou, I think that is that we start to see real progress with him finishing blocks and the whole, those type of things," Sparano said. "You know, one thing with Lou is that he is a very intelligent player. In fact, I'm not positive of this, but I think he has the highest test score of any player on our team. So this guy, very bright guy, learns things easily and is pretty aware out there. In other words, as a fullback, I think that's a good quality to have, your awareness. When all of a sudden the play is happening and maybe something shakes free from inside and he can adjust to make something happen, or there's a specific pressure out there that one of the lineman takes his guy, he needs to find their guy in the process. So, his awareness, those kinds of things are outstanding, but I'd like to see him do it at the next level. I mean, catches it well, you know, he has run skills, Read More

Duckett could see expanded role

Seattle coach Jim More said Tuesday that RB T.J. Duckett will play a significant role this year in tandem with Julius Jones. Mora indicated Duckett could be the one closing out games for the Seahawks. "T.J., when I worked with him in the past, was kind of a closer," Mora said. "He's capable of breaking some big runs and pounding people in the secondary. He's very capable of closing out a game for you, [like] in a four minute situation, when you have to run the football. ... But I believe you'll see his role expanding a little bit." Read More
