Ryan close to being recalled by Cubs?

Posted by DuckSnort 50 minutes ago (http://ownersedge.fanball.com)
The News The Chicago Sun-Times is suggesting that it may be time for the Cubs to call up reliever B.J. Ryan from Triple-A Iowa. Ryan has thrown three scoreless innings for the minor league squad since being acquired by the Cubs on July 28. Our View After two consecutive blown saves by closer Kevin Gregg, it makes sense that the good folks in Chicago would be clamoring for the team to recall a former All-Star closer, but Ryan is not the pitcher he used to be. His velocity hasn't shown any signs of improvement since joining the club, and although he has been impressive in his three outings, he is not the answer for the Cubs' depleted bullpen. The team has 15 days from Ryan's July 29 debut to recall him, so expect him to come up soon, but it is highly unlikely he will assume any kind of role that will make him fantasy relevant.

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Corey Hart was scheduled to undergo an appendectomy Sunday night. The Brewers said Hart will go on the 15-day disabled list and be replaced by Bill Hall, who will be recalled from Triple-A Nashville. "It stinks for Corey and it stinks for the team," shortstop J.J. Hardy, Hart's closest friend on the team, said. "He was really starting to swing it." MLB.com reports Hall could start in right field for the Brewers on Monday against Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kersaw, manager Ken Macha said. However, Frank Catalanotto, who started in Hart's place Sunday, figures to see the bulk of starts in right field.

Billingsley fans nine, wins 11th

The News Chad Billingsley got the win on Sunday despite leaving the game after the fifth inning with an injury. Our View The injury turned out to be a cramp, so Billingsley is fine, and the win was a nice bonus for owners. He fanned nine in his five innings of work and allowed just two hits and a walk. Too bad the injury broke up a positive start but fantasy owners can't really complain about that line.
