Posted by SlapShot 2 minutes ago (http://feeds.cbssports.com)
Ducks G Jonas Hiller stopped 28 shots during a 5-3 win against the Oilers Tuesday. Hiller fell behind 1-0 in the first period before Anaheim reeled off four straight goals to take a commanding lead heading into the third. Edmonton got close at 4-3 with 2:11 left to play, but, Rob Niedermayer salted away with the win with an empty-net goal. Hiller has won his last five decisions.

Young out 2-3 weeks

Posted by DoubleDribble 2 minutes ago (http://www.fanballnews.com)
The News According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Thaddeus Young will miss 2-3 weeks with an ankle injury. The MRI didn't reveal any ligament damage, but it is sprained badly and he has a deep bone bruise. He will miss the rest of the regular season and perhaps the playoffs as well. Our View This is bad news for Young and his owners. There is really no reason to hang on to him fantasy-wise at this point. The Sixers are just hoping his rehab goes fast and smooth and he can return for the playoffs.

Wood will start season in Triple-A

Posted by DuckSnort 2 minutes ago (http://www.fanballnews.com)
The News According to the Orange County Register, Brandon Wood will start the season in Triple-A Salt Lake. This is the third consecutive season the Angels prospect will start in Triple-A. Our View Wood actually had a very nice spring, hitting .340 with four home runs and 13 RBI, but there was just no place to put him. Chone Figgins is having an excellent spring as well, and his job is already cemented, leaving Wood as the odd man out. He'll likely receive a call-up at some point, but won't hold any fantasy value until he wins a starting job.

Glavine shaky in win

Posted by DuckSnort 2 minutes ago (http://www.fanballnews.com)
The News Tom Glavine allowed three runs on seven hits over five innings on Tuesday, but received the win. He's now 2-0 in a shortened spring season. Our View This was by far Glavine's worst start of the spring, which is actually a compliment. He looks like he's in great shape and has a beat on winning that fifth starter job. He's worth a look in NL-only leagues.

Cardinals 3B Glaus out at least 2 months (AP)

Posted by DuckSnort 1 hour 1 minute ago (http://us.rd.yahoo.com)
Cardinals third baseman Troy Glaus is expected to miss at least two months following a setback in his rehabilitation from arthroscopic shoulder surgery in January. Glaus was originally expected to miss only a few weeks of the regular season. But on Wednesday, St. Louis said Glaus will be re-evaluated around June 1.

Young out for rest of regular season

Philadelphia 76ers forward Thaddeus Young could miss the start of the playoffs with a sprained ankle. Young injured his right ankle in the first quarter of Tuesday's 98-85 win over Atlanta. On Wednesday, a team doctor said Young has a sprain and bone bruise that is expected to keep him sidelined for two to three weeks. With nine games remaining in the regular season, the 76ers are sixth in the Eastern Conference, 3.5 games ahead of Chicago, which holds the eighth and final playoff spot. The playoffs begin April 18.

Zaun knows he is on borrowed time

Posted by DuckSnort 1 hour 2 minutes ago (http://feeds.cbssports.com)
Gregg Zaun is poised to be Baltimore's opening-day catcher. How long Zaun remains the starter depends heavily upon when the Orioles summon top-notch prospect Matt Wieters from the minors and put him behind the plate. That may happen as soon as May, perhaps June, but Zaun is prepared for the inevitable. "I know it's going to happen at some point. How long before his arrival? I don't know," he said. "Maybe some of that has to do with how I play and how pitchers respond to me as a leader out there on the field." Wieters is 22 years old, and Zaun is 37. But he insists it's a very young 37. "People look at my age and my position and think, man, he's got to be on the downturn. But the first eight years of my career, I didn't play a whole lot. I don't have the mileage on my body that other 37-year-old catchers do," Zaun said. "I didn't start catching 100 games a year until five years ago. So I have the benefit of 14 seasons of experience with only five years of road mileage on my body. And I

Verlander hit hard by Braves

Posted by DuckSnort 2 hours 2 minutes ago (http://www.fanballnews.com)
The News In his second outing against the Braves in less than a week, Justin Verlander fared substantially worse. He allowed nine hits, seven earned runs, and two home runs while striking out one in five innings of work. Our View Verlander had enjoyed a pretty good spring up to this point, and he will remain the Tigers ace of the staff. However, we recommend to not let his poor 2008 season wander to far from your thoughts when considering him at the draft table.

Ambres has huge day for Sox

Posted by DuckSnort 2 hours 2 minutes ago (http://www.fanballnews.com)
The News Chip Ambres went 3-for-3 with two home runs, a double, a walk, four RBI, and two runs scored as the Red Sox beat the Pirates 4-3 on Wednesday. Our View Consider this too little too late for Ambres. His outstanding performance at the dish on Wednesday brings his spring average to just .211. He still figures to start the season in Triple-A.

Bruce will return in 2009

Posted by Gridiron 3 hours ago (http://feeds.cbssports.com)
WR Isaac Bruce is postponing retirement for another season with the San Francisco 49ers. Bruce, the second-leading receiver in NFL history with 14,944 yards, informed coach Mike Singletary on Wednesday of his decision to return for his 16th NFL season. He missed the 49ers' minicamp last month while contemplating retirement, but his return is a major boost to a San Francisco offense that would have lacked a top receiver. Bruce led San Francisco with 61 catches for 835 yards and seven touchdowns last season, his first with the 49ers after 14 seasons with the Rams. Bruce hit two major milestones during a late-season win over St. Louis, passing Tim Brown for the second-most receiving yards in league history and becoming the fifth player to catch 1,000 passes.

Arenas may play on Wednesday

Posted by DoubleDribble 3 hours ago (http://www.fanballnews.com)
The News The Washington Post reports that Gilbert Arenas will be a game-time decision for Wednesday's much-anticipated road matchup with the Grizzlies. Our View The game marks the first of a back-to-back that also includes a home game with the Cavaliers. It seems more likely that he would play in front of his home crowd against his rivals rather than squaring off against Mike Conley and the Grizzlies. Then again, not much of what Arenas does makes a whole lot of sense. Consider him a risky play this evening.
