(Reuters) - Britain's David Howell is looking to swap the TV airwaves for the fairways of the Jumeirah Golf Estates next month by finally making his debut in the money-spinning Dubai World Championship. The former Ryder Cup player, who outscored final-round partner Tiger Woods to win the Champions Tournament in China seven years ago, is slowly getting back to something approaching his best form after several seasons of struggle. ...

Chris Johnson sighting: Titans back shows off his old CJ2K form (VIDEO)
2012
There are moments where Chris Johnson reminds everyone he's the NFL record holder in yards from scrimmage in a season.
Those moments have been far and few in between, but against Buffalo the 2009 version of Johnson showed up. The Titans running back scored a 16-yard touchdown early to break a scoring drought that dated back to Dec. 4 of last year, when he scored two against ... the Bills. Needless to say, the expensive free-agent additions to the Bills defense haven't helped much.
But it was Johnson's next run that was a throwback to the CJ2K days.
Johnson took a handoff right, cut back and found a crease, then outran the Bills secondary. He was pulling away, showing he still has that elite speed that made him one of the best running backs in the NFL a few years ago, and had enough of a lead to turn his head at the 20-yard line and taunt the Buffalo defenders on his way into the end zone. After that run, Johnson had 104 yards on five carries.
It was vintage Chris Johnson. Finally.
Johnson finished with 195 rushing yards to lead Tennessee to a 35-34 win. Buffalo, the darlings of the offseason after signing ends Mario Williams and Mark Anderson, is a disappointing 3-4 after the home loss.
Garcia’s wish came true when Kaymer holed Ryder Cup putt (Reuters)
2012
MADRID (Reuters) - Sergio Garcia's wish came true when German Martin Kaymer sank the putt that ensured Europe retained the Ryder Cup in Chicago last month, the Spaniard said on Tuesday. Former U.S. PGA champion Kaymer had been out of form before taking on American Steve Stricker in the final-day singles on the Sunday of the biennial team event. The 27-year-old German lost the only match he played on Friday's opening day and was omitted by captain Jose Maria Olazabal for both sessions on Saturday. ...

Fan wearing Jose Mijares cookie medallion shows off ultimate team accessory
2012
Always on the lookout for unusual moments on TV, @cjzero spotted this San Francisco Giants superfan wearing what appears to be a one-of-a-kind medallion. By possible coincidence, the goateed charm also happens to bear a resemblance to bearded lefty Jose Mijares in cookie form. The other items worn by the fan — the cap, jersey and orange flag are fine (if corporate) expressions of a fan's love for his team. But a homemade cookie medallion depicting (even if by accident) a well-fed, one-out left-hander from the San Francisco bullpen? Now that's dedication to roster detail.
I wonder if the artist who created this piece could do a watch with Ryan Theriot's face, or earrings with the likeness of George Kontos? Brandon Crawford leggings? There's already Panda Sandoval headgear, Brian Wilson beards and Tim Lincecum hair. Could a Giants fan conceivably accessorize his or her entire body with jewelry featuring the bulk of the 40-man roster?

Watch Ilya Bryzgalov, comedic powerhouse, falling down for no reason (VIDEO)
2012
Philadelphia Flyers' goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov established his reputation as a comedy legend last winter on HBO, during "24/7 Rangers/Flyers." Between his soliloquies on the universe, the fetishization of his husky, and all that mediocre goaltending, his commitment to humour as an art form was impressive, and at times, downright admirable.
It hasn't stopped. On Monday, Bryzgalov unexpectedly and amusingly showcased the newest item in his bag of tricks: physical comedy. Here he is, falling down for no reason.
Not since Mr. Show's The Story of Everest has falling down been so funny. Bryzgalov nails every element of the pratfall here. Shock value. Invisible banana peel. Epic flail. Punching the net off. Starfish. It's all there.
Really, the only thing this clip is missing is a standing ovation and one of those long canes to drag him offstage. And maybe some "Yakety Sax".
Never change, Ilya Bryzgalov.

Here’s the Cardinals comeback in graph form
2012
If you work for a national outlet, part of the challenge of covering Friday night's classic NLDS Game 5 was deciding just how much the Washington Nationals choked, how much the St. Louis Cardinals mounted a valiant comeback and how to frame the story. I thought our own Les Carpenter did a wonderful balancing act in his column on the Cardinals' 9-7 shocker.
As for the numbers? Well, they're the numbers. But you can present them in a certain way and the Fangraphs win-expectancy chart that Dave Cameron blogged on Friday night was set up to show the Nationals' collapse as a stock market crash.
That's probably a bit unfair to the cardiac Cards, so we took the liberty of presenting the data the other way around to show St. Louis' quick and monumental rise to victory.
Hey, it beats telling all of you to cross your eyes and turn your tablets upside down:
Make sure all your bases are covered this postseason ...
