Philadelphia Flyers' goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov established his reputation as a comedy legend last winter on HBO, during "24/7 Rangers/Flyers." Between his soliloquies on the universe, the fetishization of his husky, and all that mediocre goaltending, his commitment to humour as an art form was impressive, and at times, downright admirable.
It hasn't stopped. On Monday, Bryzgalov unexpectedly and amusingly showcased the newest item in his bag of tricks: physical comedy. Here he is, falling down for no reason.
Not since Mr. Show's The Story of Everest has falling down been so funny. Bryzgalov nails every element of the pratfall here. Shock value. Invisible banana peel. Epic flail. Punching the net off. Starfish. It's all there.
Really, the only thing this clip is missing is a standing ovation and one of those long canes to drag him offstage. And maybe some "Yakety Sax".
Never change, Ilya Bryzgalov.
