Generally speaking, Bears head coach Lovie Smith is not generous with injury info, because he's no fool. He's not about to tell us anything more than what's minimally required.
Still, Smith's recent comments about Matt Forte's injured ankle certainly can't be interpreted as bad news...
"Matt did go down with an ankle injury. It's not a high ankle sprain, as has been reported," Smith told WBBM radio in Chicago.
If the injury is in fact not a high sprain, that's encouraging.
It was nonetheless an ugly sprain, one with the potential to cost Forte multiple weeks. We still don't have a timeline here, so there's little certainty. If you're a Forte owner, this particular quote is no reason to take a victory lap.
It is, however, a reason to hold off waving the white flag. Perhaps we'll see a fully functional Forte before long. His outlook has been upgraded from "bleak" to "unclear."

Michael Bush clearly remains a strong play in Week 3 against the Rams, a team that's allowing 5.5 yards per rush. Chicago's upcoming schedule seems relatively friendly for fantasy purposes, particularly where the ground game is concerned: vs. STL, at DAL, at JAC, bye, vs. DET, vs. CAR, at TEN.
Forte owners, let's hope our guy has legitimately dodged the high sprain bullet. If accurate, this could be a season-saver.
