The News The scores have been all over the board with some of the elite well within reach of a win and others missing the cut, but rising star Rickie Fowler leads them all after two days at the Memorial Tournament. Fowler turned in rounds of 65-66 to get there, leading Justin Rose by three strokes. Our View Tim Petrovic and Jim Furyk are tied for third, sitting four strokes off the lead. Jason Day and Spencer levin are tied for fifth another stroke back with Stewart Cink sitting alone in seventh at -7. Phil Mickelson is T8 ahead of an impressive group at T10 that includes Steve Stricker, Sean O'Hair, Bo Van Pelt, Steve Marino, Matt Kuchar, Kenny Perry, Ryan Moore, Carl Pettersson, and Jeff Overton.

The News Ernie Els carded a round of 72 on Friday, following a round of 74 on Thursday, coming in at +2 over two days and missing the cut at the Memorial Tournament. Our View Els is a two-time winner this season but his recent string of performance has been rather poor. Other names missing the cut include Robert Allenby (+3), Stuart Appleby (+3), Hunter Mahan (+3), Angel Cabrera (+4), Boo Weekley (+4), Jason Bohn (+8), Mike Weir (+8), Nick Watney (+9), and Steve Flesch (+12).

The News The first round is in the books at this year's Memorial Tournament and three men hold a share of the lead heading towards Friday's cut, including Geoff Ogilvy, Rickie Fowler, and Justin Rose, according to the Associated Press. All three carded rounds of 65 (-7), sitting two strokes ahead of a large group headed by Phil Mickelson. Our View Tiger Woods failed to impress, shooting even par. Suppan released by Brewers

The News The Brewers have released Jeff Suppan, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. Our View The 35-year-old was in the final year of a four-year, $42 million contract, and approximately $8.3 million remains to be paid; needless to say, that signing didn't really work out in the Brewers' favor. Milwaukee simply couldn't take the lack of effectiveness from Suppan any longer, as he was a disaster as a starter this season and wasn't any better in the bullpen. He leaves with a 7.84 ERA and 2.00 WHIP over 31 innings this season.
Indians option LaPorta, activate Marte
Posted in Fantasy Baseball by DuckSnort 499 days ago (http://ownersedge.fanball.com)
The News The Indians have optioned Matt LaPorta to the minors, according to the team's Twitter page. Our View LaPorta will get time at Triple-A Columbus to try and work on his game, as things simply haven't worked out for him in the big leagues this season. He's still young and possesses fine power, but a .218 batting average with just one home run over 119 at-bats wasn't cutting it. Andy Marte was activated from the DL to fill LaPorta's vacant spot on the active roster.

A run in the 10th inning nearly wasn't enough for the San Diego Padres. They needed a key defensive play from center fielder Tony Gwynn Jr. to hold off the Philadelphia Phillies. Adrian Gonzalez homered and drove in three runs, Chase Headley had four hits and San Diego beat the Phillies 6-5 Sunday on pinch-hitter Oscar Salazar's two-out infield single in the 10th.
