Before fireworks exploded above the ballpark, the Phillies bats went boom. Greg Dobbs sparked the ninth-inning rally with a three-run homer. Cody Ransom sent the Phillies and their stay-to-the-end fans into a delirious frenzy with a two-run shot that brought them all the way back from a 7-1 deficit. And when Ryan Howard won it with a two-run homer in the 10th, even the Phillies were stunned.

"I think everybody knows the way we're playing, everybody is having fun right now," Buehrle said Friday night after his pitching and A.J. Pierzynski's two homers led an 8-2 win over the Kansas City Royals -- Chicago's sixth straight victory and 23rd in 28 games.

St. Louis starter Adam Wainwright thought about the undefeated record Houston's Bud Norris had against his team and was determined to help end the streak. "I told myself from the very beginning: 'If he's going to throw a shutout, then he's going to tie,"' Wainwright said.

Omar Infante made hitting R.A. Dickey's dizzying knuckleball look easy. Then again, the Atlanta Braves' jack-of-all trades All-Star has been making just about everything look easy this season. Infante homered two pitches after Melky Cabrera hit a tiebreaking shot off Dickey with two outs in the seventh inning and made a smart play in the field, helping the Braves beat the New York Mets 4-2...

Cardinals SP Evan Maclane was recalled from Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday and did not wait long before making his major-league debut. He arrived at the ballpark in the fifth inning and ended up pitching in the ninth. He gave up a walk-off home run the only batter he faced, but Maclane was glad to get his first outing out of the way. "It was good, because as soon as I got here, I didn't really have time to think," MacLane told MLB.com. "They were like, 'Ready, let's go." Maclane was with the team earlier in the year, but did not make an appearance in his three days with the team. "Any time you come up, it's special and intense," MacLane said. "Every game means so much." Major League Baseball - Sports - Baseball - Triple-A - Major League

Jay, who was recalled after Ryan Ludwick was injured with a left calf strain, hit .321 for Triple-A Memphis but is glad to be back in the majors. "It's great to be back with the team, because that's the goal all along," Jay said. "I'm just trying to get to the field every day and help out the team. If it's starting or off the bench, I'm taking it every day trying to learn from my teammates." Tony La Russa - Run batted in - Triple-A - Jon Jay - Cardinals

Betemit hitting .365 through 52 at-bats

The News Wilson Betemit went 1-for-4 as the Royals slipped 8-2 against the White Sox. Our View Betemit is hitting .365 in 52 at-bats this season, but appears to be sliding back into normalcy with only six in his past 24. Still, he's only gone 0-fer twice in his past 12 games and could provide a decent fill-in option if you're hurting for corner infielders. Just don't wait long as his average is likely to even out soon.
Maholm allows three hits in seven innings
Posted in Fantasy Baseball by DuckSnort 32 days ago (http://ownersedge.fanball.com)
The News Paul Maholm allowed just two earned runs and only three hits through seven innings picking up a no-decision in another Pirates loss Friday. Our View Maholm got back on track after being cracked for seven earned against the Phillies in his last outing. The four Ks were his most in his past four outings, but unfortunately playing for Pittsburgh means he'll struggle to pick up many wins. His ERA is now 4.37 this season.
Melky Cabrera belts a homer

The News Melky Cabrera went 3-for-5 with a homer and an RBI in a 4-2 win over the Mets on Friday. Our View The RBI was Cabrera's first in eight games after a furious end to June, and gives him 24 on the season. He now has two multi-hit games in a row after not earning one since June 23 until Wednesday.
Tommy Hanson solid as Braves win

The News Tommy Hanson threw 5.2 innings of work against the Mets allowing only two earned runs and striking out six in a no-decision. Our View Hanson put together his second straight quality start after two previous disastrous outings. He pulled his ERA back down to 4.13 and looks to be back on track after a late June swoon.
Reyes gets first RBI since returning
Posted in Fantasy Baseball by DuckSnort 32 days ago (http://ownersedge.fanball.com)
The News Jose Reyes went 1-for-3 with an RBI double as the Mets fell short against Atlanta 4-2. Our View Reyes was responsible for half of New York's runs on Friday and picked up his 15th double of the season. He was really hot before missing five outings (oblique), and although he's hasn't been lighting the world on fire in three games back, it was nice to see him drive in a run for the first time since June 29.
