2007 GNUru 3B Projections

Aramis RamirezA quick examination of third basemen and man eyes light up- heck 22 thrid basemen hit over 20 HRS last year.  Dig a ittle deeper and you’ll realize that only four 3B really lived up to last years expectations:  A-Rod, Cabrera, Wright, and Ramiriez.  Each year some highly touted 3B seems to be one of the biggest busts in fantasy baseball.  Eric Chavez?  Hank Blalock?  Adrian Beltre?  This year, everyone is eyeing Garrett Atkins- is he for real or will he follow the lead of those listed above?

What happened to the days of slugging shortstops dominating the fantasy baseballJose Reyesworld? The steroid-free (note not HGH free) era seems to have brought back the traditional shortstop.  Guys like Jose Reyes and Hanley Ramirez are re-redefining the position.  While this is excellent for you ROTO players, those in head-to-head (H2H) leagues are likely indifferent.  To H2Hers a SB is simpley worth ½ a HR, to ROTO types the SB is gold.

2007 GNUru 1B Projections

Over the years the GNUru has slightly warmed up to the first base position.  Previously the GNUru believed that any top 12 first basemen would score you a heaping of "fantasy flakes".  But after years of relying on guys like RichieSexso, the Ryan HowardGNUru has changed his ways.  While a player like Sexson will certainly provide some run production, there is no substitute for the consistency and multi-category scoring the elite first basemen can provide.  While Albert Puljols, Ryan Howard, and David Ortiz will be likely first round picks, immense value can still be had a little later with guys like Teixera (who disappointed many last year),Hafner (still under the radar of many), and Justin Morneau.  The GNUru still likes any of the top 12 or so 1B but be sure to get the one you want, even if it means taking a Jim Thome in the 6th , rather than waiting until the final rounds and taking whoever is still there.  Trust the GNUru on this one!
