Is Dice-K losing fantasy appeal?Year after year, the most common mistake in fantasy baseball is giving up too early on talented players off to a rough start.  While most experienced fantasy owners won't just drop a player that they heavily invested in, they will often entertain trade offers. If you're skilled at the art of reading people and you can pick up on an owner's impatience and frustration, you can often land a high profile player at less than the market value. Below is the GNUru's list of the top 10 under-performing players worth seeking out via trade.  Please keep in mind that the GNUru is not suggesting you throw out insulting offers, as these players still do hold tremendous value, but a hefty discount can be obtained in the right situation.

  1. Carlos Zambrano - Carlos has never been known to get out of the gates well- this season is no exception.  His 4.80 ERA will quickly evaporate and Big Z will be competing for a CY Young award by season's end!
  2. Michael Young - As detailed in the GNUru Mailbag: Young and the Restless (Owners), Young is just too good to continue to be this bad.  Nab him and ride him when he gets hot.
  3. Daisuke Matsuzaka - Ok, so Dice-K mania has died off and his 4.80 ERA looks pretty ordinary.  Now's the time to try and pry him away from his disappointed owner who likely drafted the import way to high.
  4. Bobby Abreu - Not many players have fallen off the fantasy radar as quickly as Bobby Abreu.  While his numbers are starting to decline, his production will far exceed his perceived fantasy value.  Chalk up another .300 AVG, 20 + HR, and 30+ stolen base season.
  5. Dan Uggla - With the plethora of middle infielders garnering much attention this fantasy season, Dan Uggla and his sluggish start make him expendable.  While Uggs may not produce at last years level, he is still good for 20+ HRs and a solid BA
  6. Ervin Santana - Another "Sexy Pick" seemingly gone bad...while Ervin is no Johan, his stuff is too good f to pitch this bad (2-5, 5.22 ERA)
  7. Jason Bay - Jason Bay was once young stud that every fantasy owner drooled over.  Now, after getting a few years older and residing in the baseball black hole known as Pittsburg, Bay is losing his fantasy appeal.  Combine that with his slow start and Bay is a prime trade candidate.
  8. Mark Teixera - After a somewhat disappointing 2006 and another slow start in 2007, many fantasy owners are beginning to lose faith in the slugger.  Now is the time to
  9. Erik Bedard - Bedard has gotten off to a mediocre start after being quite the "Sexy Pick" this pre-season.  His high K totals indicate that it only a matter of time before his 4.74 ERA starts to settle off.
  10. Dontrelle Willis - Dontrelle's 5.40 ERA is sure to come back to earth as he has historically been a better second half pitcher.
