I'm in a 16-team, head to head, standard CBS scoring league and have a roster spot available after moving a player to the disabled list.  My starting pitching is a little weak so I'd like to stick with a starting pitcher.  Here's the best of who's available on the waiver wire.

Joe Saunders, AngelsTom Gorzelany
Tom Gorzelanny, Pirates
Mike Maroth, Tigers
Robinson Tejada, Rangers
Steve Traschel, Orioles
Aaron Cook, Rockies

I know it's not much but in a 16-team league it can be tough to find usable pitchers.  Unless my rotation falls apart this player would be mainly used during double start weeks.  Thanks in advance, love the website!

This is where fantasy baseball seasons are won and lost. Choosing the right free agent to round out your pitching staff is perhaps the single most important thing you can do to ensure an injury to one of your volatile starters does not bring your whole team down.  Starting pitching is much like the running back position in fantasy football- you need to be certain you have adequate depth at the position to compensate for the inevitable injuries.

With that, this is the time every owner in your league is scavenging the free agent list daily to pounce on the pitcher who impressed them just the night before hoping to find free agent gold.  So it's imperative that you act quickly and select the right player for your team.  The list provided is an interesting mix of talent.  Traschel, Cook, and Maroth might provide some rotation stability but the GNUru does not believe either will give your team the boost you are looking for.  In these situations the GNUru likes to think big and go with high risk, high reward players.  Joe Saunders and Tom Gorzelanny certainly fall within that category.  Joe Saunders has really impressed the GNUru in his first 2 starts going 1-0 with a 2.92 ERA.  He plays for a solid team but he has also walked a a few too many (7) and will likely lose his rotation spot once Bartolo Colon and Jered Weaver return.  Almost by default, Tom Gorzelanny is your man.  Gorzelanny has the pedigree to be a dominant starter and has looked great in his first 2 starts.  Gorzy is 1-0 with a sparkling 1.50 ERA.  Though, what is most impressive is the fact that he has walked just 1 batter in 12 innings of work and has struck out 9.  Although the Pirates are not likely to win many games, Gorzelanny will rack up points regardless and has a nice K/9 ratio to boot.
