This is a 11 team, 5x5  Roto league, I got offered Ryan Howard and Jeremy Sowers for Trevor Hoffman, Gary Sheffield (my first baseman) and Nick Markakis (OF).  Who gets the better of this deal? I have 5 closers including:  Wickman, Pappelbon, F.Cordero & S. Shields.  My first Baseman is Gary Sheffield.  I do have some back-ups to replace Markakis.

Do you think this is a deal that works in my benefit?

This is the easiest question the GNUru has recieved in quite some time. Let the GNUru put it to your this way, the GNUru would trade Markakis, Sheff, Hoffman for Ryan Howard straight up.  Throw in Sowers, a nice young arm and you are making out like a bandit.

Here is why- Howard is clearly the best player involved in this deal and that means a lot in a smaller 11-team league.  Since you have a solid stable of closers, Hoffman is very expendable especially when you factor in his age.  So really it comes down to Howard vs. Sheffield and Markakis. Sheffield is coming off an injury riddled season and you can't really count on him for much.  While Markakis has some talent, he does not project to be a top 25 Outfielder anytime soon.  Howard is an OPS monster (1.084 OPS in 2006).  That means he'll produce at the highest level in 4 out of the 5 Roto categories.  Since you are only trading away Sheff and Markakis, you are not losing out on speed so its a win-win for you.

Perhaps the best part of this deal is the fact that you have consolidated talent.  That means you will have an extra roster spot that you can use to pluck that first breakout player left on the waiver wire.  Think back to previous seasons when you hesitated on a Dan Uggla because you just didn't have the roster space. So before the other owner changes his mind, accept that deal!!
