I am in a typical Yahoo, keeper league. My scoring is for hitters, R, H,HR, RBI, SB, BB, AVG, OPS and for pitchers W, L, CG, SHO, SV, K, ERA, WHIP. I currently have Jeff Kent who is eligible at 1B and 2B. My other players eligible at 1B and 2B are, R Cano, Derrek Lee and Ivan Rod at 1B and C. Pedro Martinez is in the FA pool and I really would like to pick him up. I know when the season starts he will be on the DL then I can move him into a DL slot and make another pick. My question is, do you feel getting Pedro is worth dropping Kent? I know Kent is getting old but purely stat speaking his put up good numbers last season. Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

The simple answer to your question is no. Pedro is not expected to be back unitl sometime after the second half. When he does come back, he will likely have plenty of rust to shake off. On top of that, Pedro wasn't nearly the same Pedro in 2006 as his 9-8 record and 4.49 ERA would indicate. Although Jeff Kent is aging, has shown he still can hit when healthy. Last year in just over 400 ABs he hit 14 HRs and had 68 RBI with a .292 avergage. Those numbers are still up there with other soluid 2Bers.
Pedro is on the waiver wire for a reason. At this point in the seaon patience is key. The GNUru would stand pat for now...as the season rolls you may find another player expendable just as Pedro is set to return.
