French driver Sebastien Ogier took the overall lead on the first day of the Rally Japan on Thursday, and championship leader Sebastien Loeb finished sixth, 2.4 seconds behind. Ogier won two special stages on his way to building up a 2 second lead over two-time Rally Japan winner Mikko Hirvonen. Loeb goes into the race with a chance to win a seventh-consecutive World Rally Championship title.
