The Spurs were busy draft night as they picked up five players, including four picks, and traded away George Hill. They sent Hill to Indiana following days of speculation that San Antonio was considering dealing either Hill or starting point guard Tony Parker. Hill, a productive combo guard who filled in for Parker and Manu Ginobili over the last two seasons, fetched the drafts rights to No. 15 pick Kawhi Leonard, Davis Bertans (42nd pick) and 2005 second-rounder Erazem Lorbek from the Pacers. The Spurs also drafted Texas point guard Cory Joseph with the 29th overall pick and Hungarian swingman Adam Hanga at No. 59. The keys to the wheeling and dealing are Leonard and Joseph, along with keeping the Big Three of Tim Duncan, Ginobili and Parker intact. Hill had become a valuable member of the rotation, but the San Antonio front office felt Leonard was too good to pass up. The Spurs are hoping to regain the defensive swagger they've lost the last few seasons and believe Leonard and Joseph can help in that department. The 6-foot-7 forward out of San Diego State was compared favorably to former San Antonio favorite Bruce Bowen for his ability to defend multiple positions on the floor. Leonard was named second-team All-America last season after leading the Aztecs to a school-record 34 wins and Sweet 16 appearance. For the season he averaged 15.5 points, 10.6 rebounds (ninth in the NCAA), 2.9 assists and 1.42 steals in 32.6 minutes. Leonard posted 23 double-doubles, which ranked fourth in the NCAA.
