Tampa Bay 3B Evan Longoria said he won't play until Wednesday's playoff opener, ending his regular season, according to the St. Petersburg Times. The All-Star third baseman hasn't played since Sept. 23 as he's been dealing with a strained left quadriceps. He is batting .282 with three homers and 16 RBI this month. Longoria has been lobbying to play, but lost his case. "I kinda crumbled under the pressure,'' Longoria said of his workout in front of manager Joe Maddon. "It's the best thing for everybody. It's the best thing for me to try to get as close to 100 percent as I can be, and in turn hopefully that benefits the team and I don't re-injure myself and end up being out for I don't know how long.''
