Latendresse shot his own rebound off Cristobal Huet and the puck flipped high in the air before sailing behind the Blackhawks goalie into the net. He has four goals in his last six games.
Sakic hopes he can return this season
Posted by SlapShot 4 minutes ago (http://feeds.cbssports.com)
Although his fingers are feeling fine, Joe Sakic's left leg is a different matter. The Colorado Avalanche captain is still trying to recover strength in his leg after January surgery to repair a herniated disk. However, he remains optimistic he can return to the ice before the end of the season. Colorado closes out the year with three straight home games beginning April 9. Sakic, who's in his 20th season, mangled his left hand in a snow blower accident in December and then had surgery on his bothersome back. As for his retirement plans, Sakic refuses to consider that until the summer.
Oilers G Dwayne Roloson made 20 saves during a 5-3 loss to the Ducks Tuesday. Roloson jumped out to a 1-0 lead before Anaheim broke the game open in the second period with three goals. The Ducks led 4-1 heading into fourth and were cruising until Edmonton cut the lead to one with 2:11 to play. Then Rob Niedermayer iced the win for Anaheim with an empty-net goal at 19:24. Roloson has lost five of six starts.
Ducks D Sheldon Brookbank scored a goal and finished at plus-1 during Tuesday's game against the Oilers. The Ducks tied it at 1 when Ryan Getzlaf fed a pass through Ales Kotalik's legs to Brookbank, who beat Dwayne Roloson for his first NHL goal. It took him 86 games over three seasons to accomplish the feat.
Ducks RW Rob Niedermayer scored twice and finished at plus-1 during Tuesday's game against the Oilers. Anaheim looked to have put the game out of reach late in the second when Scott Niedermayer dished the puck to Rob at the top of the circle, and his high shot seemed to catch Dwayne Roloson off guard to make it 4-1 after 40 minutes. Edmonton called for a stick measurement late in the game, but received a penalty themselves when it was deemed legal, leading to a power-play, empty-net goal by Niedermayer. It was his first two-goal game since Nov. 30.

Scott Niedermayer had a goal and two assists, and the Anaheim Ducks jumped above the postseason cutoff line in the Western Conference with a 5-3 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night. Anaheim went ahead 2-1 just 33 seconds into the second period with a nice three-way passing play with a man-advantage. Teemu Selanne sent a pass to Scott Niedermayer, who beat Dwayne Roloson glove side. It was his second three-point game in six outings.
The News The Philadelphia Daily News reports that Riley Cote will be a game-time decision for Wednesday's game with Toronto due to a finger injury. Our View On the surface, Cote's three points through 62 games makes him seem utterly irrelevant in fantasy hockey. However, in leagues that count penalty minutes, his 174 comes through as a steady roar. However, with the banged up finger, he doesn't figure to mix it up tonight even if he does play.
The News Nikita Filatov has been recalled by the Columbus Blue Jackets, according to the AP. He has 16 goals and 16 assists this season with Syracuse. Our View The 18-year-old was the number six overall selection in the 2008 draft and carries a load of potential. In his only eight NHL games, he has already notched four goals and a plus-3 rating.
Ducks D Chris Pronger scored a goal and finished at plus-1 during Tuesday's game against the Oilers. The Ducks pushed the lead to 3-1 at 5:13 of the second with another power-play goal. Pronger scored on a shot from the point while Edmonton's Tom Gilbert serving a double-minor for high-sticking Bobby Ryan. It was his 11th goal and first since Feb. 21.
