According to New Jersey State Police, a 42-year old man fell over 20 feet from an escalator as he was leaving MetLife stadium following the New York Giants' 27-23 win over the Washington Redskins.

Sgt. Adam Grossman told the Associated Press that the man fell over the side of an escalator and fell onto a metal stage below. It is unclear at this time what caused the fall. The man was airlifted to Hackensack University Medical Center and was in critical condition when he arrived.

Some fans tweeted from the scene that the man had fallen to his death, but reports later confirmed that he was alive when he was transported to the hospital.

This isn't the first time an individual has fallen in an NFL stadium this year. On Aug. 31, 25-year-old Jonathan Kelly fell to his death at Houston's Reliant Stadium during a preseason game between the Houston Texans and Minnesota Vikings.

Chuck Pagano is released from the hospital, watches Colts win from home

21 Oct
2012

It was nice enough for the Indianapolis Colts that they picked up their third win of the season, exceeding the total put up by the franchise in the entire 2011 campaign. But what made the 17-13 win over the Cleveland Browns truly special was that head coach Chuck Pagano, who has been on indefinite leave as he undergoes leukemia treatment, got to watch the game from his home.

Pagano was released from Indiana University Health Simon Cancer Center earlier on Sunday, and was able to see the game from his couch. Team owner Jim Irsay told the team of Pagano's release from the hospital after the game.

"I was more thrilled with that than the win,'' quarterback Andrew Luck said. Luck ran for both of Indianapolis' touchdowns on the day. Receiver Reggie Wayne who has known Pagano since the two men worked together at Miami 16 years ago, seemed even happier.

"He's got to be on the up-and-up," Wayne said. "No matter how much he wants to get out, if he ain't right, they're not going to let him out ... "We know what's important. His rest is important,'' Wayne said. "Whenever the time allows him to come and see us, we're ready to see him. Until then, we want him to get his rest and do the things he's supposed to do."

Wayne also joked that his team might have had Pagano wondering if he'd have to return to the hospital after the Colts rebuffed some potential fourth-quarter heroics.

Pagano was admitted to the hospital upon diagnosis on Wednesday, Sept. 29, and the team announced Pagano's condition on October 1. The 51-year-old Pagano was hired to replace Jim Caldwell on January 25; it was one of the major moved in a sweeping franchise upheaval that also included Luck taking Peyton Manning's place as the face of the franchise.

Despite his condition, Pagano has done all he can to inspire his team. He sent his e-ail message to his players soon after he was admitted.

"My condition will not determine my position. I understand the condition but choose to focus on my position. That is to stay positive and SERVE.

"WE WILL, WE CAN, WE MUST. WE HAVE NO CHOICE. BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY. WE WILL OVERCOME.

"IT'S ALL IN THE PROPER STATE OF MIND."

And that's why Pagano's players are so thrilled that he's back home -- they know that he's not out of the woods by any means, but they've seen the perfect distillation of that proper state of mind, and it's also paying dividends on the field.

"He was at the house, and we're really excited about that," offensive coordinator and interim head coach Bruce Arians said about his colleague after Sunday's win.

"That's probably as big as the win today. ... I'm sure he's feeling great right now."

No question, and for all the right reasons.

Colts and Packers pay tribute to Chuck Pagano with ‘CHUCKSTRONG’ campaign

07 Oct
2012

The Indianapolis Colts had a bye last week, which gave the franchise a bit more time -- if nothing else -- to deal with devastating news. First-year head coach Chuck Pagano was diagnosed with leukemia in late September, and the team made that news public on Monday, Oct. 1.

While Pagano has been undergoing treatment at IU Health Simon Cancer Center since Sept. 26, he's been sending emails to his team, studying game tape on his iPad, and staying upbeat.

Per Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, Pagano sent a specific message to his team.

Pagano also sent a missive to the fans.

Dear Colts Fans,

On behalf of the Pagano family, we want to say thank you for all the love and support that you have shown.

All the cards, gifts, emails, success stories and prayers that we have been showered with give us a tremendous amount of peace and strength.

We could not get through this without you.

Coach P

In response to their coach's courage, the Colts have put the #CHUCKSTRONG meme just about everywhere in Lucas Oil Stadium in preparation for Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers. Rachel Nichols of ESPN tweeted out some great pictures from the stadium on Sunday morning.

According to the team's official site, "The Colts are giving fans an opportunity to show their support and send their well wishes to Coach Pagano and his family, as well as raise funds for leukemia research through a CHUCKSTRONG campaign."

That campaign includes the sale of T-shirts, posters, and a collection, to raise money for leukemia research at the IU Simon Cancer Center. And in the pregame preparation, it was clear that everybody was on board -- even the Packers' players. Many on the Green Bay roster took to the field with "CHUCKSTRONG" T-shirts in Packers colors.

"It shell-shocked a lot of people on the team, including me," Colts quarterback Andrew Luck told the NFL Network of Pagano's diagnosis on Friday. "I don't think I fully grasped the situation, but we also try not to let it affect football too much, which may sound very cold, but I view it as an obligation to coach Pagano that we're still bringing the same intensity, dedication, focus to practice, to meetings and any Colts-related event.

"For him, he wouldn't want us falling off the emotional cliff or starting to do uncharacteristic things because he's not around. But it's a tough deal, and I think we'll learn a lot about ourselves as we go through it."

Colts interim coach and offensive coordinator Bruce Arians, who waged a successful war against prostate cancer in 2007, echoed the message that his team must stay on the path.

"He will do fine," Arians told The Associated Press. "I know him. He's a fighter. He's survived tough times already in his life ... As a cancer survivor myself, I know that these first few days are really hard on you, but as he and I talked yesterday, it's just a matter of time."

"We always talk about 'God, Family, Football' in that order, and certainly this has been difficult for him and for his family," Colts owner Jim Irsay said of Pagano when the team announced Pagano's condition. "Knowing Chuck, his first concern is always going to be for his children, his grandchildren, and for his wife.

"I feel with every fiber of my body, and I know Chuck feels the same way, that he can beat this thing."

Pagano will have tough times ahead, but if he ever questioned the support of his own team, or of the NFL in general, the NFL has certainly responded with an affirmative response.

"Don't worry, coach... we got this."
