Talk about a comeback: The 49ers inserted backup QB Alex Smith at halftime in place of Shaun Hill in their Week 7 game at Houston down 21-0 and nearly led them back to a win. Hitting tight end Vernon Davis three times for touchdowns, Smith completed a very impressive 15 of 22 passes for 206 yards with an interception and 16 rush yards. This was Smith's first three-touchdown game since a 2006 game vs. the Raiders. Head coach Mike Singletary named Smith the team's starter for Week 8 at Indianapolis.
