The Milwaukee Brewers have released struggling pitcher Jeff Suppan during the final year of the richest contract in team history. The Brewers signed Suppan to a $42 million, four-year deal before 2007, but Suppan never pitched as strongly as he did in his three previous seasons in St. Louis. With the Cardinals, he won a World Series and was picked the NLCS MVP in 2006.

The Chicago Daily Herald reports that Cubs OF Alfonso Soriano will stay in the sixth spot, despite his recent struggles. “We’re going to keep him where he’s at," said manager Lou Piniella. "We’d like Soriano to drive in some runs for us is what we’d like. Where he’s at, he’s in a position to do just that. It’s just a question of getting him hot with the bat. He’s been streaky. He’s either hot, or he’s cold. A little more consistency would help.” Alfonso Soriano - Lou Piniella - Chicago Cubs - Bats - Wildlife

Suppan released by Brewers
Posted in Fantasy Baseball by DuckSnort 569 days ago (http://ownersedge.fanball.com)
The News The Brewers have released Jeff Suppan, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. Our View The 35-year-old was in the final year of a four-year, $42 million contract, and approximately $8.3 million remains to be paid; needless to say, that signing didn't really work out in the Brewers' favor. Milwaukee simply couldn't take the lack of effectiveness from Suppan any longer, as he was a disaster as a starter this season and wasn't any better in the bullpen. He leaves with a 7.84 ERA and 2.00 WHIP over 31 innings this season.
Indians option LaPorta, activate Marte
Posted in Fantasy Baseball by DuckSnort 569 days ago (http://ownersedge.fanball.com)
The News The Indians have optioned Matt LaPorta to the minors, according to the team's Twitter page. Our View LaPorta will get time at Triple-A Columbus to try and work on his game, as things simply haven't worked out for him in the big leagues this season. He's still young and possesses fine power, but a .218 batting average with just one home run over 119 at-bats wasn't cutting it. Andy Marte was activated from the DL to fill LaPorta's vacant spot on the active roster.

A run in the 10th inning nearly wasn't enough for the San Diego Padres. They needed a key defensive play from center fielder Tony Gwynn Jr. to hold off the Philadelphia Phillies. Adrian Gonzalez homered and drove in three runs, Chase Headley had four hits and San Diego beat the Phillies 6-5 Sunday on pinch-hitter Oscar Salazar's two-out infield single in the 10th.

The News Josh Whitesell has been acquired by Yakult of the Japanese Baseball League, according to the Kyodo News. Our View Whitesell had been playing pretty well at Triple-A Syracuse this season, but he clearly does not need to be on anyone's fantasy radar anymore.
