Orioles SP Nick Markakis was playing with a painful abdominal bruise for much of the latter part of the 2011 season. Manager Buck Showalter was aware of Markakis' injury, but he said that the 27-year-old didn't want to come out of the lineup. Showalter told MASN.com, "He just couldn't go anymore. You never see him not run down to first base on that last at-bat...you can take your pick how many times he's come up bleeding." Markakis finished the season with a .284 batting average, 15 home runs and 73 RBI.
