For the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery in June, Red Sox SP Daisuke Matsuzaka played catch. According to WEEI.com, Matsuzaka made 39 tosses during his session in Fort Myers, Fla., on Tuesday morning. Matsuzaka was uneasy at the start of his session, as he explained, ”I was nervous about my first throw because I didn’t want to throw it in a strange way. Since it was my first time holding a baseball in a long time, I wasn’t quite sure about my release.” Matsuzaka is on schedule with his recovery and hoping to pitch again for the Red Sox by midseason next year.
